The plan was originally to go to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast... but plans changed after joining the 'moving car park' on the Pacific Motorway. The Big Day Out was on today plus it was such a beautiful day to waste indoors so everyone in Brisbane must have decided to join the 'moving car park' all the way to the Gold Coast. Grrr...
The 'moving car park' started near Garden City. Oh well off to Moogerah Dam...Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary next week?
But first breakfast... late brekkie at a cafe/restaurant in Jindalee. We were joined by an Eastern Water Dragon (Physignathus lesueurii).
Breakfast... and wash it down with iced coffee.
On the way to Moogerah Dam...
The silted water of Moogerah Dam - after the big wet in December last year and early January... which culminated in the floods in Queensland...
The dam's spillway
...raw, unedited short video captures of the dam... poor quality but you get the gist...
Look - one side is full of water and the other is not...not too scary?
The dam wall holding back the water
The spillway view from Moogerah Peaks National Park: Mount Edwards section
View from atop the dam wall of the water flowing down the spillway
...flowing in to the valley below...
A cold treat on a hot Queensland summer day... Billabong chocolate ice block...
View (lazy unimaginative photos...LOL) taken from the park near the dam wall... I can't recall the name of the park (Googling didn't help much!)
And the trip back to Brissie via Cunningham Highway...
...we didn't get to take photos of the 'aftermath' of the flood on the trip to and from Moogerah Dam. You could see the tell-tale signs of how high the flood water was - the bottom half of trees were brown and withered...
...the following vids (if they appear as they did when this post was previewed) were supposed to be following the others but somehow the 'blog' has a bit of a spaz attack... grrr... what a spoiler...
